It is one week until the start of National Novel Writing Month, there is still time to get involved! Check it out here!
So leading up to the beginning of Nonmember there are a lot of opportunities to ask questions and get your thoughts flowing. One of the opportunities is to write your writing affirmation.
This is basically a couple sentences that you can pull out anytime to remind you why you’re participating in NaNoWriMo and to help motivate you when times get tough. I will refer back to this whenever I am feeling discouraged in order to help me stick to my commitment of writing a novel in November.
After careful consideration, and some edits, here is mine:
"Remind yourself how proud you will be that you chose not to give up at
this very moment."
So I have been very slow and off schedule this week, but I have a great reason!
After 4 years at Memorial Univeristy of Newfoundland I have offically graduated with a BSc. Majoring in Earth Sciences and minoring in Geography. I had a great day and it has been such a great accomplishment in my life. I cannot wait to see where I go next!
I have had a very eventful and busy month between school (yes, still here doing some extra courses) and work. I wish I had more time to commit to blogging, but after this month it should not be an issue!
Sorry for being late! I actually graduated this week so it has been a little hectic!
Planners and Planning
Since 2015 I have committed to using a planner and honestly it has been life-changing for the better.
I usually keep a planner for strictly life and I color code it to more easily communicate tasks associated with school, work, appointments, chores, gym, etc. I will definitely show you my color coding in a future post.
Since I started to run thebayreads I began to use a notebook to keep track of dates and tasks associated with my blog. I definitely needed to upgrade and actually use a more structured notebook or planner.
I invested in a 2017-2018 17 Month Rifle Paper Co. Planner – Floral Foil by Rifle Paper Co. because I have been slack with my other planner and want to start before the new year. I will need to retrace the past couple months and fill it in to catch up in order to get back on track.
For my planner associated with thebayreads I purchased a 2018 12 Month Coptic Planner – Ebony Garden by Studio Oh! this one does not begin until January of 2018.
Another Monday and another busy week ahead of me. I have been consumed by life and homework lately that I have been finding it hard to read as much as I would like, however I have figured out a way to get a nice reading session in each day!
For anyone who does their cardio on a machine or would like to start and have a hard time getting through a good cardio session should definitely test this out!
I always bring something to read during cardio, it not only makes the cardio easier or more tolerable, but it also helps get a good reading session in.
I usually bring my kobo since it is more convenient and can use it on almost all cardio machines, however since A Little Life is a large and detailed read I have been sticking to the stairclimber so that I can read this book during.
My trick is to read a full chapter and then check the time, if they are short chapters then read two!
STORY TIME: When I was reading The Girl on the Train I was on the bike
machines planning on doing a 20 minute session. The book was that good
that I ended up sitting down and doing over an hour of cardio. Time well
spent having a good cardio session and finishing a good book.
Let me know if you try it!
from this website I searched some common superstitions.
- It’s bad luck to open an umbrella indoors – I mean I have heard this one all my life, but I am not too concerned. Maybe because I rarely use umbrellas.
Walking under a ladder is bad luck – I do try to avoid ladders, but I’m not sure how much I believe it.
Broken mirrors lead to seven years of bad luck – yep, I definitely believe this one.
When you spill salt, toss some over your left shoulder to avoid bad luck – I always do this one, and I make sure other people do it also.
A black cat crossing your path is unlucky – I have heard if it, but I don’t really believe it.
- The number 13 is unlucky – This is my favorite number, so I guess I will have to disagree.
Finding a four leaf clover is lucky – I believe this, finding a four leaf clover is lucky in itself!
Wishing upon a shooting star – Even if you don’t believe, we all still make a wish.
Holding your breath while passing a cemetery – I have never even heard of this one! I don’t believe in it.
- Throwing coins in a fountain for luck – The version I know is to throw a coin into a well and make a wish!
- Wishing on dandelions – The version I know is to blow on dandelions that have the seeds ready for dispersal, if you make a wish and blow ALL of the seeds out then your wish will come true.
Placing shoes on the table – I actually only heard of this one a couple of years ago when my roommate got mad at me for doing it, I definitely do not believe in it though.
Step on a crack and break your mother’s back – I think this one was just made for the sake of the rhyme, I don’t believe in it.
What superstition do you most believe in?
One of the hardest parts about writing is coming up with ideas, that is why on this Writer Wednesdays segment I am going to talk to you about the importance of having an idea notebook!
Sadly, I have lost count of the great ideas I have had – and lost – because I failed to record them in a place that I could come back to at any time. I have tried using my phone, but batteries die, phones break, and software crashes. The most trustworthy method of saving your ideas is to write them down in a notebook.
To get my ideas flowing and to prepare for novel November I have chosen a notebook to designate as my idea notebook. It does not require a lot of effort, you just need a space where you can record ideas as you have them.
The ideal idea notebook is big enough that you can record many ideas, but small enough that you can carry it with you in your bag/purse or even in your hand.
Now, anytime you have an idea you can just grab this notebook and scribble your thoughts down as quickly and messy as you want. This way, whenever you are ready to sit down and actually write something you can refer back to this notebook in order to retrieve some of your great ideas!
But, don’t forget your pen!
Maybe sometime in the future I will share some of my ideas from my own idea notebook with you!
Here in Newfoundland, Canada this Monday is the holiday of Thanksgiving. Life is so busy we often forget to be grateful and thank others for the great aspects of life we have.
I had a great thanksgiving weekend, I spent Saturday with my closest friends, Sunday I had turkey dinner with my mother, father, and a couple friends into the cabin and ended off the night playing UNO and headbands, and then I spent today hiking with my parents, visited my grandparents, and then going out to a restaurant for supper.
So for today’s Me, Myself, and Monday segment I have decided to make a quick note of some of the things I am thankful for!
Here is a list of things (big and small) that I am forever thankful for
- Friends and Family (here and gone)
- My Pets (here and gone)
- Access to Clean Water
- Food on my Plate
- The Endless Opportunities I Have Access to
..and of course BOOKS
ANOTHER new blog installment is here! I was going to wait until November, but in preparation for Novel November which I will discuss in a minute, I decided to start in October.
I really want to start writing again and to make more time for it. Having a scheduled day every week should help in reaching that goal. I have a really busy October, so I may be slow really getting into this installment.
Things I may post:
My writing activity
Some of my writing
My journals, which may eventually evolve into its own segment
So, Novel November
Using the National Novel Writing Month organization I am planning on dedicating November to writing a novel. In preparation for this they like to get writers involved in October.

A Little Life is definitely going to take me some time to finish, and I am also trying to get through an ebook so September’s TBR is slowing me down
HOWEVER, after careful consideration of your suggestions I have picked some spooky halloween reads for this month!
The Shining by Stephen King – I have been dying to read this book, but I wanted to save it for October!
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley – I am a little embarrassed to say I have never read this yet, but it fits right into my Halloween theme!
The Shack by William Paul Young – I have chosen this read for now (mostly because I need to finish it so my mom can have it), but it doesn’t exactly fit with my theme so I may change my mind when I get around to it.
Because I still have some September reads to clue up I have chosen only three books besides for my TBR – hopefully I get to read more.
Have you read any of these?
Today’s Me, Myself, and Monday post is going to be short and sweet because I have a midterm tomorrow – and guess who hasn’t studied yet!
October is my absolute favorite month! I get to wear my long socks and sweaters while getting in the spirit of Halloween.
I find this type of year everything feels different and I spend the autumn season getting more in touch with myself.
Autumn is my favorite, however it does not last long in Newfoundland – winter may come at any second. I am going to enjoy it while it lasts!
I am starting off my favorite month with this read (and this outfit)
